Dear Little Man, Did you know that I photographed your mom and dad’s wedding? It’s true. It was a beautiful summer day just a few years ago. They got married in the sunshine, smiling and breathing it in. Your mama wore purple shoes, and your daddy looked quite dashing. They kissed under a tree and danced under a disco ball. They were (and still are) sweetly in love.
That was a few years ago. Now you have popped on to their scene. During one of the coldest and longest winters they had seen, YOU became their sunshine. And their smiles grew wider, their hearts bigger, and when they looked at each other in the eyes, they looked a little more deeply. They were in awe of you. And then one day, you could crawl. And sit up on your own. And you made all these really awesome faces. You were rascally and got into everything. And they were in awe of you. And the next thing they knew, you were walking. And really, really playing. They followed you around and kept you out of trouble and laughed with you. And yet again, they were in awe of you. And now. Now you are big. A year has flown by. And they have been there through it all – to help you, to love you, to marvel at your very existence.
A couple of weeks ago, you watched your aunt get married. You wore a bow tie. You danced. You ran around like you were in charge, and sent plenty of people running after you. You laughed and laughed. YOU are so loved.
(I LOVE doing the first year experience, and I love being part of a family’s life as they grow. To see more first year experience sessions, head here.
